Red , rosé and white wines from the southern Italian province of Potenza ( Basilicata ) are sold under the name Grottino di Roccanova . The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 2009 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

The wines with the designation may only be grown and vinified in the municipalities of Roccanova , Sant'Arcangelo and Castronuovo di Sant'Andrea in the province of Potenza .

Manufacturing

The following types of wine are produced:

  • Grottino di Roccanova Rosso and Grottino di Roccanova Rosso Riserva: 60-85% Sangiovese ; 5-30% Cabernet Sauvignon ; 5-30% Malvasia Nera di Basilicata ; 5-30% Montepulciano . A maximum of 10% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Basilicata region may be added.
  • Grottino di Roccanova Bianco: at least 80% Malvasia Bianca di Basilicata . A maximum of 20% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Basilicata region may be added.
  • Grottino di Roccanova Rosato: same grape varieties as Rosso
