List of grape varieties

Malvasia Nera di Basilicata (also Malvasia nera ) is a red wine variety and one of many varieties from the Malvasia family in Italy. The variety is very old and probably of Greek origin; so far, however, such evidence has not been provided. Morphologically , it is close to the Malvasia Nera di Lecce and Malvasia Nera di Brindisi varieties . The cultivation of the variety is recommended in the provinces of Matera and Potenza in the Basilicata region .

The late-ripening variety is vigorous and delivers good yields. The sugar-rich musts result in alcohol-rich wines with a beautiful aroma. The wines are mainly classified in the table wine class. The forested area was 1365 hectares at the beginning of the 1990s .

Synonyms

The following synonyms of the grape variety are known: Cassano, Malvasia di Lucania and Malvasia nera.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy white wool but without a crimson tinge. The young leaves are only slightly hairy.
  • The medium-sized leaves are five-lobed and only moderately deep. The stalk bay is closed lyren-shaped. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are large and set wide in comparison to the grape varieties.
  • The cone-shaped grape is sometimes shouldered and medium in size. The round berries are medium-sized and bluish-black in color. The flesh is dark in color and aromatic.

The Malvasia Nera di Basilicata grape ripens about 30 days after the Gutedel . It is one of the late-ripening varieties.

There is also a white grape variety called Malvasia Bianca di Basilicata .
