List of grape varieties

The red variety Malvasia Nera di Brindisi is one of many varieties from the Malvasia family within Italy. Like the Malvasia Nera di Lecce grape variety, it is also a natural cross of the Malvasia Bianca Lunga × Negroamaro varieties.

The cultivation of the variety is recommended in the provinces of Lucca and Grosseto in the Tuscany region , in the metropolitan city of Bari and the provinces of Brindisi , Foggia , Lecce and Taranto in the Apulia region . It is also approved in the metropolitan city of Florence and the province of Pistoia (both in Tuscany) as well as the Calabrian provinces of Catanzaro and Cosenza and the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria .

The late-ripening variety is vigorous and delivers good yields. However, it is susceptible to powdery mildew and gray rot . The red wines are often used in blends with the Negroamaro and / or Somarello Nero varieties . This variety is among other entrance to the DOC - Wine Salice Salentino .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy with white wool, yellowish-white in color with a slight reddish-bronze tinge. The yellowish young leaves are lightly woolly hairy and spotted bronze (anthocyanin spots).
  • The medium to large leaves are five-lobed and clearly indented. The stem bay is lyren-shaped open. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties.
  • The cone-shaped grape is medium-sized and has dense berries. The round berries are medium-sized and blue-black in color. The juice of the berry is reddish in color (→ dye grape ). The aroma of the juicy berry is neutral.
