Malvasia Nera di Lecce

The name of the Italian red grape variety Malvasia Nera di Lecce is a synonym for the grape variety Malvasia Nera di Brindisi and is one of many varieties from the Malvasia family within Italy. It is a natural cross of the Malvasia Bianca Lunga x Negroamaro varieties .

The cultivation of the variety is recommended in the provinces of Brindisi , Lecce , Taranto in the Apulia region . It is also approved in the provinces of Pisa (Tuscany) and Foggia and the metropolitan city of Bari .

The late-ripening variety is moderately strong and has poor yields. The must is very rich in sugar, but lacks acidity . The wines are often used in blends with the Negroamaro variety . The variety finally finds its way into the DOC - wine Salice Salentino , Aleatico di Puglia and Leverano , where it usually adds color and fragrance to the wine. Malvasia Nera di Lecce can also be part of the Vincotto seasoning specialty .

The planted area is approx. 2,436 hectares . Small stocks can be found at Mugello . Parentage: Malvasia Bianca Lunga × Negro Amaro

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy with white wool, yellowish-white in color with a slight reddish-bronze tinge. The yellowish young leaves are lightly woolly hairy and spotted bronze (anthocyanin spots).
  • The medium to large leaves are five-lobed and clearly indented. The stem bay is lyren-shaped open. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties.
  • The cone-shaped grape is medium-sized and has dense berries. The round berries are medium-sized and blue-black in color. The juice of the berry is reddish in color (→ dye grape ). The aroma of the juicy berry is neutral.
