Example of an anime- style fan art

Under Fan Art is meant drawn works that fans of an artist, a music group, an author, a television series or similar make. The heroes or main characters are often chosen as the motif. The typical style of the model is imitated, modified or expanded. The picture does not always have to be a simple copy of existing works; fans often invent their own series or storylines. Drawings for Japanese manga or anime are particularly popular .

Many fans experiment with combining influences from different, sometimes even opposing role models. Fan art is often sent to fan clubs or the artists themselves, or passed on within the fan base. The works can also be created in collaboration.

Fan-fiction is an analog phenomenon , but instead of painting pictures, texts are written.
