Fanon (surgery)

With Fanon a one called in former times surgical device for bone fractures has been applied.

The fanon consisted of a kind of straw drawer (shrine) in which the injured leg was stored in the event of an open or closed fracture .

In the Kleiner Brockhaus'schen Conversations-Lexikon für die Handarbeit from 1854, the term: ... in surgery a kind of splint, often used in the past to fix the limbs in a quiet position for broken legs, consists of a straight stick surrounded by straw and tightly wrapped with a bandage.

The faux fanon was a compress of canvas that was placed between the straw drawer and the leg to ease the pressure.
