Farga Rossell is a water-powered hammer forge in Andorra ; it is located in the area of La Massana and is now a museum part of the Iron Information Center (Centro de Interpretación).

history

Between the 17th and 19th centuries, the Andorra valley was an area with a significant iron industry. Farga Rossell was built between 1842 and 1846. The hammer mill is driven by the Riu Valira del Nord river via a reservoir in front of the water wheel.

The Rossell hammer forge is one of the best preserved examples of this period of iron industry in the Pyrenees . At the beginning of the 19th century, the iron industry in Andorra was given up due to the difficult mining conditions and has now almost disappeared into insignificance.

The Iron Museum, which deals with the production of iron in Andorra in the past and today, was established as an information center for iron. The route of iron that leads to the Rossell smithy is on the way from Arans to Llorts . Along the way there are sculptures that point to the tradition of iron in Andorra. In the village of Llorts itself there are still mines where the ore was extracted earlier. The forge with the adjoining building is a listed building and has been registered since June 12, 2003 on the basis of the Llei del patrimoni cultural d'Andorra.
