Faris az-Zahrani

Faris az-Zahrani ( Arabic فارس أحمد جمعان آل شويل الزهراني, DMG Fāris Aḥmad Ǧamʿān Āl Šuwail az-Zahrānī , also Faris al-Sahrani , * 1977 ; † January 2, 2016 ( executed ) in Saudi Arabia ) was an alleged member of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia.

Life

Faris az-Zahrani was arrested by Saudi security forces on August 5, 2004 in a café in the city of Abha , around 800 kilometers southwest of the capital Riyadh . Since the death of the previous leader of al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia, Abd al-Aziz al-Muqrin , he is said to have played a central role in the organization.

Az-Zahrani is believed to have been responsible for a series of suicide attacks in Riyadh in May 2003, in which 26 people were killed.

On January 2, 2016, he was executed with 46 other people sentenced to death .
