Farmers
Farmers is a US insurance group. It is the third largest personal and liability insurance company in the United States.
history
Founded in 1928, the Zurich Insurance Group acquired it in 1998 and now operates in 41 states through a network of 21,000 employees.
structure
The Farmers brand name can refer to either the Farmers Group, Inc. or the Farmers Exchanges. Farmers Group, Inc. is the management and holding company which, along with its subsidiaries, is wholly owned by Zurich Financial Services. Farmers Exchanges consists of three co-operative insurance companies with subsidiaries. These belong to the policyholders but are managed by the Farmers Group.
Farmers also include:
- Farmers Neue Welt Lebensversicherung , founded in 1910 as Neue Welt Lebensversicherung, was taken over by Farmers in 1953 and is the only insurance company belonging to the Famers Group.
- Foremost , a specialty travel and camping insurance company, acquired in March 2000.
- Bristol West , a Florida motor vehicle insurer founded in 1973, acquired in July 2007.
- 21st Century was acquired by American International Group in July 2009 .
