The Fast Local Internet Protocol ( FLIP ) is a datagram service that offers its users some additional or improved services compared to other protocols such as TCP / IP , such as reliable multicast , improved security services and support for process migration. It can send datagrams up to 1 GB in size.

FLIP is used for communication between the distributed CPU units of an Amoeba system.
