The fast and secure protocol ( FASP ) (Engl. Fast and secure protocol ) is an optimized for data traffic network protocol that of the Californian company Aspera Inc . was developed.

Similar to the connectionless UDP , FASP does not expect any feedback about every packet sent. Only the packages marked as really lost need to be requested again from the recipient. As a result, the high latency and packet loss mean that it does not suffer as much throughput losses as the TCP protocol.

Large companies like IBM and others use the protocol in different areas. Amazon would also like to use the protocol for uploading to data centers.

safety

The FASP protocol has integrated security mechanisms that do not affect the transmission speed. The encryption algorithms used are based exclusively on open standards. Before the transfer, SSH is used to authenticate the participants for key exchange. These randomly generated one-way keys are discarded at the end of the transmission.

The data is encrypted or decrypted with the AES-128 immediately before sending and after receiving . To counteract attacks by observing the encrypted information during long transmissions, the AES is operated in cipher feedback mode with a secret initialization vector for each block. In addition, there is also an integrity check of each data block. B. noticed a man-in-the-middle attack .
