Faux pas
Faux Pas is a comic strip invented by Robert and Margareth Carspecken. The name comes from a play on the French phrase faux pas , which means a social misstep. The title is an allusion to the behavior of the characters appearing in the comic. The main characters are the red foxes Randy and Cindy.
publication
Faux Pas first appeared in a Boulder, Colorado newspaper in the late 1970s. Later the comics and the various representations of the characters were used in various newspapers, newsletters, fanzines, comics and APAs.
A book based on the comic was published in October 2003 by Plan Nine Publishing . Due to production problems, this book was temporarily sold out. The contract between the Carspeckens and Plan Nine ended in September 2005, so the book is no longer printed. However, it is sold in a limited edition by the Carspeckens at various conventions .
Faux Pas won the 2005 Ursa Major Award for " Best Anthropomorphic Comic Strip ".

action
The comic is about life on a run-down farm in the Rocky Mountains (Colorado) called "Green Mountain Studio Animals" (GMSA). The animal characters are anthropomorphic . They have human language and intelligence but do not walk upright on two legs. So they are anatomically more similar to real animals.
Randy's life begins in a pet store. He is mistaken for a dog with an unusual body odor. Soon he ends up at the GMSA, alongside other animals that mainly work as models for films, photos, etc. Over time, he began to have doubts about his supposed species. He also begins to make friends with the other animals. On the one hand, there is Myrtle DeHen, the easily confused and hectic hen. After GMSA changed hands, Randy found himself in a large group of 144 domestic cats . The leader of the cats is Kira Cat. She thinks Randy is a great cat toy. Every now and then Randy is replaced by the other animal roommates.
Now Cindy appears for the first time. As a vixen born in the wild, she finds it very interesting how Randy was raised by humans. Cindy feels drawn to Randy, but the result is an unusual and funny relationship with one another. Since she came from the wild, she thinks it would be crazy to befriend Randy's colleagues (for example, the hen Myrtle DeHen would be her natural prey). However, to do Randy a favor, she does so. Randy makes an agreement with the cats that they should leave Cindy alone. Cindy would be able to deal with the cats herself.
Cindy sees the relationship as a rewarding opportunity to learn more about what's going on at the GMSA. In return, she teaches Randy and several other GMSA residents how to use their instincts effectively in the wild in order to survive at all. One question that remains unanswered, however, is whether they will ever have fox babies.
