Fedora Commons is a open source - repository that allows one digital objects in electronic archives manage and make available can. Fedora Repository is primarily used in libraries, universities, and other research and academic institutions as a data repository for document servers . Fedora Repository is compatible with the requirements of the Open Archives Initiative (OAI). Fedora is called here "Flexible Extensible Digital Object and Repository Architecture".

Comparable programs for operating document servers from the library world include DSpace , MyCoRe , OPUS , EPrints and CDSware ( CERN ) as well as Apache Jackrabbit in the conventional open source area .
