The light railway of the Luz María and Chobo sugar factories was a light railway with a gauge of 600 mm near Milagro in Cantón Yaguachi, Guayas Province , Ecuador .

In the municipality of Chobo were the plantations and sugar factories of the Compañía Azucarera Iluzmarsa, including San Nicolas , La Gloria , formerly known as La Carmelina , La Palma and Luz María , formerly Santa Rosa de Chobo . The town hall has been on the site of the Luz María plantation since 1867, which at that time was mainly used for sugar production.

Homero Morla

The businessman and politician Homero Morla Mendoza (1844-1918) from Guayaquil was the owner of the estates, Guabí, San Nicolás, Luz María de Chobo (formerly Santa Rosa de Chobo), Matilde, Chirijo and Guasmo (all in Milagro) and founder of the Luz María and Chobo sugar factories.

He was a son of Nicolas Mariano Morla and Maria Encarnación Mendoza. His brothers were Juana Carolina, Andrés María, Nicolás, José Arístides, Darío, Horacio, José Nicolás, Virgilio and Ovidio Morla Mendoza. Around 1887, Homero Morla Mendoza acquired from Dr. Modesto Jaramillo the sugar factory and the Hacienda in chobo and made many modifications to the estate and at the sugar factory, which he named in honor of his wife Luz Maria Morla Franco (1846-1947) Luz Maria was.
