Felsensägmühle (Leonberg)

The rock sawmill

The Felsensägmühle is a former sawmill on the Glems in Leonberg in Baden-Württemberg.

In 1471 "Graf Eberhard im Bart" lent his fulling and grinding mill to "Hainrich Ferwer". The conditions were favorable. Free wood, transport of wood and whetstones by the count's servants, exemption from taxes, valuation and labor. With the ban on mills, the count forced everyone from the town and country of Leonberg to have them milled and grinded in this mill. Red and white tanners, cloth makers and an armourer had operated this mill until it burned down in 1772. Around three decades later, a sawmill was built at this location, which was named Felsensägmühle in 1890.

The sawmill was in operation until 1994. The mill building and the house were renovated in 2000 in keeping with the style.
