Fennicism

The term Fennicism is used to describe words, phrases or grammatical constructions that have been adopted from Finnish into another language .

Fennicisms are mostly found in the Finnish Swedish of the Swedish-speaking residents of Finland . An example of this can be found in the expression for the student overalls that are very popular in northern countries . The rich Swedish name for this is student overall , it whereas in Finland Sweden , derived from Finnish haalari ( "Overall") studenthalare is.

A well-known fennicism in the German language is the word sauna .
