Ferrari rotor is a type of rotor for asynchronous motors that goes back to Galileo Ferraris .

Ferrari runners are mostly made of aluminum , but unlike squirrel cage runners, they do not contain iron. They have the shape of a thin disk, as in electromechanical Ferraris meters , or a thin-walled cylinder, as in highly dynamic servomotors for aircraft. The rotor moves in the rotating magnetic field due to the eddy currents induced in it and their magnetic fields . Its advantage is the extremely low moment of inertia compared to squirrel cage rotors (due to the outsourcing of the iron) and the smoother running (due to its higher symmetry).
