The Fuchsegg fortress (army designation A 8630) is located above Realp in the Urserental . The fortress of the Swiss Army is at an altitude of around 1990 m. ü. M. directly on the pass road to the Furkapass . The plant, built in 1943, was shut down in 1995.

history

Construction of the fortress in the Gotthard fortress area began on September 1, 1941. On February 10, 1943, the first two 10.5 cm armored turrets were installed. The second pair of armored turrets was installed on July 8, 1943. The fortress was definitely ready for use in autumn 1945. The cost of the construction work amounted to 15.4 million Swiss francs, more than double the budgeted credit.

The Fuchsegg Fortress was declassified and closed on January 1, 1995. In the meantime the fortress has been emptied and dismantled.

Armament

The plant had the following guns:

  • four 10.5 cm turret cannons 39 (tank turret)
  • bunkered infantry weapons

Infrastructure of the fortress

In addition to the usual facilities such as a kitchen, accommodation, ammunition stores and fire control center, the Fuchsegg plant also had its own bakery. The military cable car SB 172 led from Realp to the fortress.

The fortress was operated by the fortress artillery company (Fest Art Kp) 15/7 until Army 61 . In Army 61, the Fest Art Kp II / 7 was the operator of the system. The company was divided into an artillery platoon, factory security platoon, fortress infantry platoon and a command platoon. Another platoon of the fortress air defense was assigned to the external defense. This fortress flab was trained by the Flab troops and also completed its WKs with the "normal" Flab. This Flab was assigned to the Fest Art Kp. She was subordinate to the fortress anti-aircraft department (Fest Flab Abt) 23.
