Fetometry
Fetometry refers to the measurement of the fetus in the womb using medical ultrasound diagnostics . This examination is part of the prenatal diagnosis and is usually carried out in the second trimester in the 19th to 22nd week of pregnancy .

The following measurements are routinely collected:
- Biparietal diameter (= GDP )
- Head circumference (= KU )
- Abdomen circumference, i.e. the circumference of the fetal abdomen (= AU )
- Length of the thigh bone (femur length, hence FL )
The weight of the fetus can be estimated from these values .
The following points are also assessed:
- Position of the child (e.g. skull position ) and the child's back
- Location of the mother cake
- Amount of amniotic fluid
- Child's heartbeat and movement patterns
- Blood flow characteristics of the maternal vessels nourishing the placenta
If there are any abnormalities, a fine ultrasound can be performed by appropriately trained obstetricians.
