Fat bargain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Das Fettnäppchen is a cabaret based in the Thuringian city of Gera .

history

The cabaret was founded in 1973 in Gera. The basis was a resolution by the government at the time, which provided for a cabaret to be established in every district capital of the GDR.

Until 1989/1990, the "fat bargain" was under the supervision of the Gera district administration. On July 31, 1991 it was successfully privatized as the first cabaret in the new federal states. Eva-Maria Fastenau and Susanne Russe have been managing partners since then.

Privatization meant complete artistic freedom, which was often curtailed by program bans during GDR times, but also economic independence. There was no funding from the state as well as the service staff provided by state companies. The income of the cabaret is now achieved exclusively through entrance fees. The city of Gera does not support East Thuringia's only ensemble cabaret.

Programs

Since its inception, cabaret has enjoyed the reputation of being a cabaret stage for sharp-tongued satire and humor. It is in the Enlightenment tradition of German ensemble cabarets. His programs thrive on scenes, chansons and conferences. Entertainment, parody and comedy also mix with contemplative tones.

The GDR cabaret lived from saying what the media kept secret at the time, the East German cabaret lived from having to say what was being kept secret again. That the programs hit the nerve of the audience is proven by the approximately 40,000 visitors each year in the two permanent venues and those of the tours.

ensemble

The “Fettnäppchen” is a cabaret with a permanent ensemble, which includes five cabaret artists : Eva-Maria Fastenau (since 1978), Marco Schiedt (since 2012), Gisa Jürcke (since 2012), Michael Seeboth (since 2016), Susanne Reiss (since 2015). The programs are usually performed by two cabaret artists, so that the company is able to hold five different events at a time due to the size of the ensemble. Solo programs can u. a. to be played by Eva-Maria Fastenau.

Venues

The "Fettnäppchen" is the only cabaret in the new federal states with two permanent venues.

The original Gera venue has been located in the cave of the Renaissance town hall on the market since it was founded in 1973 . The privilege of serving the Rathaushöhler can be traced back to 1487, which makes it one of the oldest documented restaurants in Germany. Since 2008 the Rathaushöhler has been used as a venue for the months from October to April.

In 1995 a second venue with an attached restaurant was opened in Kapellendorf in the Weimarer Land, in order to be able to tap into a large audience from Central Thuringia.

Since the spring of 2008, the “Fettnäppchen” has been using another permanent venue with an adjoining restaurant that offered an open-air option: the “Hofgut” in Gera- Untermhaus , which was the remisen of Osterstein Castle and is located on the former site of the Federal Garden Show 2007 is located. The season was from April to October. In addition to cabaret events, other cultural genres were also served in the Hofgut, weddings, summer parties, company anniversaries and much more were celebrated. In July 2017, the venue had to be closed due to a resident complaint and the associated conditions by the city of Gera.

In addition, the cabaret performers mainly appear in Thuringian theaters, art courts, cultural centers, restaurants, castles and palaces. The Kapellendorf venue is closed in July and August. During this time, the cabaret artists appear increasingly in the surrounding area.
