Padding marks
The fat pad sign is an X-ray sign that can be helpful in recognizing a fracture or an occult fracture .
It is the representation of normal anatomical fat pads on joints as a lightening band. Depending on the skeletal region, these fat pads are visible or not in healthy people. A displacement or the appearance of a joint effusion indicates a fracture.
The best known fat pad mark is that on the elbow.
