Final Surface is a 3D software for the acquisition, visualization, processing and analysis of 3D measurement data in the form of point clouds and triangular networks.

So far, the software is mainly used in industrial production, mechanical engineering , medical technology , dental technology , rapid prototyping , restoration and applications in architecture . It supports laser scanning data. It is developed and published by the Society for the Promotion of Applied Informatics eV (GFaI) based in Berlin.

Functions

False-color-coded data set of a concrete surface, created in Final Surface

There are standard additional modules ("plugins") for the following functionalities:

  • 3D laser scanning with terrestrial laser scanners from Z + F and Faro
  • 3D scanning with active stereo method and gray code / phase shift method (ScanMobile)
  • Analyze / color the surface curvature (Analyze Curvature)
  • Analyze / color the distances between 2 objects (Analyze Distances)
  • Closing holes in triangular meshes (Mesh Healing)
  • Import / export of laser scan file formats (Laserscan file formats)
  • Referencing / registering multiple data sets (matching)
  • Point cloud filtering (Point Filtering)
  • Thinning of triangular meshes (Mesh Reducing)
  • Refining triangle meshes (mesh refining )
  • Generation of homogeneous triangle sizes (mesh resampling)
  • Smoothing triangle meshes (Mesh Smoothing)
  • Processing of topological network areas (submeshes)
  • Triangle mesh generation / surface production (triangulation)

Emergence

The underlying algorithms have been developed at GFaI since 1990 and made usable with the help of the user interface (GUI) Final Surface since 2001. Initially, the software was mainly used in research (3D acquisition and 3D data processing) and was continuously developed. So was z. B. from 2007 the surface modularized.
