Financial instrument for directing fisheries

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance (FIFG) is at the same time an instrument of the EU Common Fisheries Policy based on Council Regulation (EEC) No. 3760/92 and, on the other hand, an instrument of EU structural policy based on Regulation ( EC) No. 1260/1999 of the Council with general provisions on the Structural Funds . The aim is to promote structural measures in the fisheries or aquaculture sector and in the processing and marketing of the corresponding products. FIFG was created to support the adaptation of European fisheries structures to the world market by modernizing the fleets and fishing ports as well as by subsidizing fish farming, processing and marketing of fishery products. In 1993, the EU's structural funds were expanded to include the FIFG.
