Under the name finc ( f ind in c atalogue) to libraries have formed a community that creates the common bibliographic search systems, developed and operates permanently.

The origin of the community was a three-year, ERDF- funded project in Saxony, which had the goal of creating bibliographic discovery systems for Saxon university libraries. This project took place between 2011 and 2014 and was implemented on the basis of the VuFind software . After the end of the funding phase, former institutions involved in the project formed a community for further operation and joint financing of the infrastructure that was created. Since the foundation of the community, new members from other federal states have also joined, meanwhile 17 institutions from all over Germany are working together. The technical operator of the infrastructure is the Leipzig University Library .
