Finger puppet

A finger puppet is the pure form of a head, which is placed on a finger or painted. Even a pinched nose can be enough to define the head.

The heads can be designed in any style, but of course not exceed a certain size. Costumes are not used as a creative means, the hand itself represents the body. At most, the color and shape of gloves help to create certain associations. The creative continuation of this type of figure is the hand puppet , in which the player's hand is completely disguised.

In spite of, or perhaps because of, its simplicity, the finger puppet is a versatile play figure in the puppet theater , which is suitable for all subjects, but is more accessible to light fabrics. It is guided directly and allows spontaneous movements. The effect of this technique depends heavily on the skill of the puppeteer.

A well-known finger puppeteer was Gerhard Mensching ("Das Taschentheater"), who also played and spoke the Lemmi in Lemmi and the Schmöker .
