The Finnish-language Wikipedia ( Finnish Suomenkielinen Wikipedia ) is the Finnish version or variant of the international Wikipedia project.
history
The Finnish language Wikipedia started at the end of 2002. Until 2003 this language version showed only a very small increase, only from 2004 onwards significant numbers of pages and users could be recorded.
In 2013, 70% of Finnish articles were rated as accurate. Thus, the Finnish Wikipedia shows a relatively good quality compared to other language versions with a comparable number of articles. There were 76.8 Wikipedia articles for every 1,000 native speakers of Finnish in 2015.
The Finnish language version had over 455,000 articles and over 410,000 users in April 2019, of which around 1950 were active.
Milestones
- In September 2002 there were 1,000 articles.
- In April 2004 5,000 articles were reached.
- On February 9, 2005 there were 15,000 items.
- On February 21, 2006, it had 50,000 items.
- Finally, on February 11, 2007, 100,000 articles.
- On April 12, 2009 there were 200,000 articles.
- On June 26, 2012, the Finnish Wikipedia reached 300,000 articles.
- The 400,000 item mark was exceeded on August 29, 2016.

- At the moment, Wikipedia is the only encyclopedia in Finnish that is regularly updated.
