Royal Artillery Museum
The Royal Artillery Museum (official name of the museum: Firepower - The Royal Artillery Museum ) was a military museum in south-east London . It was located in the Woolwich district and provided information about the history of the Royal Artillery and the Royal Arsenal . It also housed a number of historical and modern weapons. It closed on July 8, 2016, but is set to reopen in Wiltshire in spring 2022, according to its website.
The museum was housed in some of the former buildings of the Royal Arsenal , a former armaments , ammunition sealing and explosives testing company in London. The forerunner of the Royal Artillery Museum was the Royal Military Repository, which was established in May 1778.
After a fire that destroyed the Royal Military Repository in 1802, the exhibits were kept in a forerunner of today's museum. The Royal Artillery Museum was finally established on May 4, 1820. The museum was opened in its last form in April 2001.
