Fishing bell

Fishing bell

The fishing bell is a device that was used especially in the early days of aquaristics , when the nets made of nylon were not yet available. They were used to catch fish from aquariums.

There is a hole in the handle of the bell. This is closed with the thumb before the bell is immersed in the water. In the water, the bell, which normally has an opening about 10 centimeters in diameter, is guided under the fish to be caught at a half angle. If the hole in the handle is then released, the water flows into the bell and sucks the fish into it.

Fishing bells made of glass, as they were typical in the early days of aquaristics, are no longer offered today. However, they are still available made of plastic because they are particularly suitable for catching young fish or sensitive fish.
