Nets (also Käscher , Feumer ) are sac-like networks , which are often of round, sometimes also secured to rectangular frame. The frame is usually mounted on a rod or a handle.

Nets serve z. B. the proper removal of fish from the water, also for the removal of fish from an aquarium . There are different versions, depending on the purpose and type of fish. Nets that are used in the aquarium hobby are very small and fine-meshed compared to fishing nets. Tightly woven nets made of soft material are particularly suitable for fish with sensitive barbels , such as those typical of catfish . The forerunners of the nets in aquaristics were fishing bells made of glass. In the handle of the bell there was a hole that was closed with the thumb. The bell was put under the fish and the hole released. The fish was sucked into the bell by the suction of the water.

Landing nets are also used to catch flying insects , e.g. B. Butterflies to capture. Nets are also used to fix small animals in animal keeping (e.g. zoological gardens) for medical interventions and measures.

Special nets can be provided for microorganisms ( plankton , krill , amphipods, etc.).

The nets are usually made of nylon material in various mesh sizes .
