Fish Fillets NG is a computer puzzle game . The goal of each level is to find a safe way out for both fish. It is comparable to the similar puzzles Sokoban and Klotski . In Fish Fillets the game has been made more difficult by some additional elements and rules. The game contains background music and, for many levels, some animated effects, but neither has any effect on the gameplay.
The game was initially commercial and was originally developed by Altar Games and released in 1998. In 2002 it was relicensed and released under the GPL . In 2004 fans developed a new version (“Next Generation”) based on the published free version and ported it to many other operating systems and languages.
Gameplay
Part of the game are two fish, each controlled by the player, which move various objects and obstacles until both can successfully exit the level. Unlike many other puzzle games, gravity plays a role in this game and objects that are not supported fall until they land on another object. If an object falls on one of the fish, it dies and the level has to be restarted or it cannot be completed. One of the fish is larger and has the ability to move certain objects (those made of steel) which adds another difficulty to the puzzles. Another important rule is that no object should be pushed over the back of a fish, this is equivalent to an object that lands on the fish. However, a fish holding an object may swim back and forth under this object and an object may be pushed one unit off the fish's back, provided it is supported again.
