Flámæli

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flámæli is an Icelandic sociolect .

The characteristic of Flámæli is the lowering of ɪ (written i, y) to / e / and from ʏ (written u) to œ (written ö). This sound development was once found in the entire east as well as in the west and southwest of the island, including Reykjavík . However, under the sign of Icelandic linguistic purism, it was deliberately prevented in school lessons and has now almost completely disappeared.
