Wing (chess)
Queen's wing and kingside are terms from the game of chess , with the a- , b- and c- line forming the queenside and the f- , g- and h- lines forming the kingside. Attacks carried forward on a flank are accordingly referred to as king or queen wing attacks.
In chess theory, this distinction is of considerable importance, as attacks on the queenside (frequent goal: to gain space to convert a pawn ) usually run under completely different conditions than those on the kingside (usually an attack aimed directly at the king with the aim of a tactical end ), See also: Chess Strategy .
