Los Angeles flag

The flag of Los Angeles consists of three notched vertical stripes in the colors green, gold and red. The city seal is depicted in the center.

The colors represent olive trees (green), orange trees (gold) and vineyards (red). The colors are also present on the flags of Spain and Mexico , the two nations that ruled the area before it became part of the United States. The flag was designed by Roy E. Silent and Eli Stanley Jones in 1931 for the city's 150th anniversary.

The flag received brief international attention during the closing ceremony of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. It was hoisted instead of the US flag as a symbol of the next hosts. This move was seen as a response to the American-led Olympic boycott.
