Walter Senner

Walter Senner OP (born July 30, 1948 in Auggen ; † July 3, 2020 in Mainz ) was a German religious and Roman Catholic theologian whose research interests include the history of the order, Albertus Magnus , Thomas von Aquin , Johannes von Sterngassen and Meister Eckhart .

Life

Senner grew up in Wiesbaden, where he graduated from the Oraniengymnasium in 1968. In the same year he entered the Dominican order in Warburg . He studied philosophy , Catholic theology and library science in Walberberg, Bonn, Cologne and Leuven. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1974 . From 1982 to 1989 he was a student pastor in West Berlin . In 1989 he received his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Louvain with a thesis on the commentary by Johannes von Sterngassen on the work of sentences by Petrus Lombardus . In 1990 it became the study rain of the North German Dominican Province.

From 2006 until his retirement in 2019 he was professor at the Angelicum in Rome.

From 1998 to 2005 he was a member of the papal Commissio Leonina for the edition of the works of Thomas Aquinas. He was a member of the Société Internationale pour l´Étude de la Philosophie Médiévale and the Görres Society . In 2014 he was awarded the title of "Magister in Sacra Theologia", the highest scientific honor in the Dominican Order.
