Flags of the Reich Air Protection Association

The flags of the Reichsluftschutzbund were the flags and pennants used by the association for German air raid protection during the time of National Socialism .

Flags, banners, pennants

The Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB), founded by Hermann Göring in 1933 , initially used flags with a dark blue cloth. The badge of the RLB, consisting of a silver-colored “RLB star”, and the letters “RLB” in black in black letters were applied to this. There was also a simple black swastika below the letters. Until 1939, this was the only flag of the RLB that was also used as a vehicle flag for all members of the association.

On January 31, 1939, new flags were introduced by a decree of the RLB Presidium. The basic color of the flag has now been changed to red. Furthermore, the letters “RLB” were omitted from the RLB badge, while the swastika - now bordered in white - was extended over almost the entire RLB star. The local or local district groups of the RLB also had square flags with silver-colored fringes that were attached on three sides. They were made of red cloth with the RLB badge in silver. In the upper left corner of a silver-piped flag mirror was the name of the local district group and above it the name of the regional group. The flag mirror also had the basic color red.

In addition to the new flag, vehicle stands were also introduced, which were intended for the company cars of RLB members and were to be attached to the right fender. All stands had a red basic cloth and were given the RLB badge (gold or silver) and the RLB national emblem. The national emblem consisted of the imperial eagle, which had a special shape, and the RLB badge underneath, including a simple, black swastika. The stands were edged with either gold or silver or black and white braids.
