Flexarium

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flexariums are terrariums that are made of a stable polyamide net. The net is stretched between a plastic frame and a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tub serves as the base . Such a net terrarium can be opened using the side zips.

Flexariums can be used - as an alternative to the classic terrarium - to keep reptiles permanently in the home or for free-range keeping in summer. The advantages of a net terrarium are the natural UVA and UVB rays of the sun coming through the net and the prevention of overheating through good ventilation. Disadvantages are the much lower stability of the light structure in contrast to wooden or glass terrariums and the comparatively low tear resistance of the nylon fabric.

The bottom shell of a flexarium is waterproof and can therefore be planted. Since these terrariums are very open, you have to pay particular attention to the necessary humidity. a fog machine is recommended for regular air humidification. The planting of a flexarium should also be lush. A rear wall in the terrarium can also provide moisture, as the rear wall blocks a way for the moisture to escape. If the rear wall is rough and made of a moisture-retaining material, this also ensures the required humidity.
