Flooding (computer science)

Flooding [ ˈflʌdɪŋ̩ ] refers to the flooding of a network with data packets. This can be intentional, as in the case of the Open Shortest Path First procedure (OSPF) , which uses this technology to transmit information to all connected computers , or Usenet , in which the articles are sent to all computers in the Usenet (- Network). Flooding can also be undesirable, such as flood pings , which can paralyze the data traffic in a network and thus cause a Denial of Service (DoS), or in a SYN flood attack on a single computer, which can cause massive numbers of Inquiries is flooded.
