Flop (basketball)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In basketball, the flop is the pretense of a foul by the opponent. A player simulates previous physical contact with the opponent by moving his own body. If the attempt at deception is recognized, a technical foul can be imposed. Literally translated flop means: “the fall”, “the falling in”.
The Competition Committee of the NBA called the flop as a physical act that is intended to provide the referee to cause deceptively intention to whistle a foul. In addition, there is the deliberate misleading of the audience, who can come to the assumption through the flopping that the referee overlooked a foul.
Since the 2012/13 season, the penalties in the so-called "anti-flopping rule" have been increased drastically in the NBA. If a warning is given for the first offense during a season, there will be a fine of $ 5,000 for repetitions, up to $ 30,000 for the professional's fifth offense. From the sixth misconduct onwards, the player can be suspended for the entire season.
