The Raadi Airport (Estonian Raadi lennuväli ) is a former military airfield in southeast Estonia. It is located 4 km northeast of the second largest Estonian city Tartu in the Raadi district .

history

Raadi Airport was inaugurated in 1919. During the Soviet occupation of Estonia, the 698 hectare area served the Soviet air forces as a base for bomber and transport squadrons. Jokhar Dudayev was the commander of the strategic bomber fleet in Tartu from 1987 to 1990 . In 1992 the Red Army withdrew.

The 3050 m long concrete runway was kept ready for emergencies from 1993. The last plane landed there in 1996. Today the Estonian National Museum is located on the site .
