Fluid Science Laboratory

The Fluid Science Laboratory (FSL) is a payload in the form of an International Standard Payload Racks , in the Columbus space laboratory of ESA is integrated.

The FSL rack supports investigations into the dynamics of fluids under the conditions of weightlessness . Processes that are normally influenced by gravitational convection , sedimentation , stratification or different pressure conditions can be examined here.

The aim of the investigations is to optimize production processes on earth and to increase the quality of the products produced. Manufacturing processes that have to take fluids into account should be able to be calculated and controlled more precisely, such as metallurgical processing and crystal growth .
