Forces Nationales de Liberation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Forces Nationales de Liberation (National Forces for Liberation; FNL for short) are a rebel organization from Burundi .

The FNL is a spin-off from the Parti pour la Liberation du Peuple Hutu (PALIPEHUTU, Party for the Liberation of the Hutu People) and is therefore also known as the PALIPEHUTU-FNL. She fights for the rights of the Hutu majority in Burundi, which feels oppressed by the Tutsi .

In 2004 Hutu rebels killed 160 Tutsi refugees in an attack on a camp near the Congolese border to which the FNL claimed responsibility.

In 2006, the FNL became the last rebel group to sign a peace agreement with the Burundian government.
