Formal rate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Formal kinetics is a term coined by Heinz Mauser for a photochemical investigation method that is used to elucidate reaction mechanisms. It is mainly used in photokinetics .

This involves, for example, tracking a mixture of n reaction participants at n wavelengths for a period of time by spectrometry. The temporal spectral curves make it possible to exclude certain reaction mechanisms as well as to determine the characteristic rate constants for suspected reaction mechanisms . In this way, it is possible to elucidate chemical reactions caused by light ( UV light or visible light).
