Lumberjack settlement

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A logging town (also lumberman settlement or forest colony ) is a settlement of forest workers .

In order to shorten the walking distances, some of which took hours, separate settlements often emerged around and in managed forests , which were either later given up with the decline of forestry or which became the nucleus of a new place and in some cases rose to become cities.

Lumberjack settlements typically emerged in forestry or wood processing companies or in companies that required large amounts of wood, such as mines or glassworks.
