Fortadur
Fortadur is a trade name for a fiber-reinforced glass .
The Schott glass works have joined with the University of Karlsruhe and the Technical University of Berlin developed a process whereby the strength of glass and glass-ceramic can be increased considerably. The glass matrix is usually a borosilicate glass . Ceramic long fibers made of carbon or silicon carbide are incorporated into the glass matrix. The resulting composite withstands high mechanical, thermal and chemical loads. It can be used in mechanical engineering for highly stressed structural elements, such as deflection fingers or stripping plates .
