Fortadur is a trade name for a fiber-reinforced glass .

The Schott glass works have joined with the University of Karlsruhe and the Technical University of Berlin developed a process whereby the strength of glass and glass-ceramic can be increased considerably. The glass matrix is ​​usually a borosilicate glass . Ceramic long fibers made of carbon or silicon carbide are incorporated into the glass matrix. The resulting composite withstands high mechanical, thermal and chemical loads.
