Forum Flaminii

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Forum Flaminii was an ancient site in the Umbrian countryside of Italy . It was on the Via Flaminia , a Roman road leading north from Rome , north of Fulginium ( Foligno ) near today's Vescia .

The name indicates that the place was when the road was built by Gaius Flaminius in 220 BC. Was founded and as a forum had to fulfill certain administrative tasks. In the 3rd century AD ( Itinerarium Antonini ) Forum Flaminii was only referred to as vicus ("village"). The titular bishopric Forum Flaminii of the Roman Catholic Church goes back to a late antique bishopric of the city .
