The Environment & Development Forum coordinates the activities of German non-governmental organizations in international political processes on sustainable development .

The forum was founded in 1992 after the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development and sees itself as a mouthpiece, coordination instrument and "hub" for positions developed jointly between the members. The office maintains contacts with organizations from developing countries and coordinates joint actions with international associations. At the UN level, it accompanies the international work on environment and development that will continue after the aforementioned conference.

She sees one of the main tasks of the office in making the connection between the environment and development clear to the German public and advocating a change in the economy and way of life in industrialized countries.

The forum is an unincorporated organization; The participating organizations and associations are bearers of statutory rights and obligations.

In 1999, the forum initiated the negative Fossil of the Day award .

The work of the office in Berlin is defined by a management group made up of representatives from environmental and development organizations. The steering committee represents the positions and demands of the Environment & Development Forum towards government institutions and the public.

financing

The sponsoring organization of the forum is the Deutsche Naturschutzring e. V. (DNR). The office is financially supported by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
