Dogecoin ( symbol : Ɖ ; abbreviation : DOGE ) is one of Litecoin derived peer-to-peer - cryptocurrency whose name and design on the Internet phenomenon Doge based.
history
Dogecoin was released on December 8, 2013. Although originally intended as a parody of Bitcoin and the rapidly growing number of complementary currencies , the Dogecoin to US dollar exchange rate rose rapidly in the first two weeks. On December 19, 2013, 1,050 DOGE were worth one US dollar and, measured by market capitalization , Dogecoin was the ninth largest crypto currency with 8.79 million US dollars. | The coin's logo shows a Shiba on which “Doge” is based. On January 10, 2014, only around four weeks after the publication, 25% of all Dogecoins had already been created by mining. On January 19, 2014, the Dogecoin community collected Dogecoins worth around 30,000 US dollars for a possible Olympic participation by Jamaica's bobsleigh team. As a result, the Dogecoin price soared 50% and was the seventh largest cryptocurrency with a market capitalization of $ 51.54 million. On January 31, 2014, Dogecoin was already the fifth most valuable cryptocurrency with a market capitalization of more than 61 million US dollars. The Reddit Dogecoin Community is currently collecting Dogecoins for a manned moon mission. In June 2015, Dogecoin’s little sister currency appeared : Litedoge (abbreviation: LDOGE ).
Differences from Bitcoin
Like Litecoin , Dogecoin uses scrypt in its proof-of-work algorithm. In contrast to the Litecoins, it takes 1 minute to create a new block (Litecoins: 2.5 minutes). The biggest difference compared to other cryptocurrencies, however, is the immense number of coins that can be generated. While Bitcoin and Litecoin are limited to a total of 21 million and 84 million coins respectively, Dogecoin was originally designed for 100 billion coins. On February 2, 2014, Dogecoin founder Jackson Palmer published the decision to lift the limit. Dogecoin therefore has a clearly inflationary character, from 2015 onwards 5.256 billion new Dogecoins are to be minted every year, which corresponds to an inflation rate of 5.3%. Since the amount that is added each year is constant, the inflation rate will decrease continuously (it will be 3.4% in 2025, 2.5% in 2035, only 1.9% in 2050, etc.).
Online exchanges
Due to its relative novelty, the exchange rate is subject to violent price movements even compared to Bitcoin and is not traded on all online exchanges. Some online exchanges allow Dogecoin to be traded directly with national currencies without going through Bitcoin. Since Kraken ceased trading in euros in September 2014, only Yacuna offers Dogecoin trading in euros and British pounds, Vault Of Satoshi trading in Canadian dollars, and the Prelude, CoinMKT and ANXPRO exchanges trading in US dollars.
