Fossegrenda is a district of Trondheim , which is about 5 km south of Midtbyen . This place is surrounded in the southwest by the Nidelva and the Leirfossene power station , in the northeast by the districts of Nidarvoll and Bratsbergveien , and in the southeast by the district of Leira. Nevertheless, Fossegrenda is also a residential area with individual houses and several apartment buildings. 63% of the apartments are single houses. Fossengrenda, in German "the waterfall hamlet", was named because of its proximity to the Leirfossene hydroelectric power station in the Nidelva.

The district developed into an industrial area from 1975 and is still an important industrial and business center of the city of Trondheim. There are companies from various sectors such as: medical equipment sales (AssiTech AS), housekeeping (Trøndervask AS), accounting, etc. A geology laboratory also conducts research in Fossengrenda.
