Foxy Brown (singer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Foxy Brown (real name: Jen (n) iffer Esmerelda Hylton) is a Jamaican singer. In the late 1980s she achieved some success in Jamaica and in dance halls outside with cover versions of the Tracy Chapman hits "Baby Can I Hold You Tonight" (= "Sorry") on the "Unmetered Taxi" - riddim and "Fast Car", both produced by the Jamaican producer duo Steely & Clevie. She was so quickly committed to the role of Jamaican Tracy Chapman by the audience, which initially seemed a hindrance to a career as an independent singer and songwriter . However, even after the release of her debut album "Foxy" she was able to build on her first successes. So in 1990 we started working with top Jamaican producers such as u. a. Lloyd "Pickout" Dennis and Philip "Fatis" Burrell , from which the hits "Always For Me" and "Whip Appeal" as well as collaborations with the then popular dancehall DJ Johnny P ("Cherish The Love", "If You Love Me") resulted. Overall, a large part of their repertoire consists of cover versions which also include rock steady standards such as "Love Is All I Had".
