Yeni Halfeti ( Turkish for "New Halfeti", Kurdish : Xelfetîya Nu) is a city in Turkey . It arose from a resettlement project.

The old town of Eski Halfeti had to be relocated because it was swallowed by the Euphrates . Today Yeni Halfeti faces the former Kurdish village of Karaotlak (today Karaotlak mahallesi ). The only separation between the newly built city and the former village is the country road; Kurds and Turks live so close together that parts of their language and way of life merge. The resettlement has created new jobs for the villagers. Transport connections have also improved: in the past horse-drawn carts used to drive the mostly unpaved roads. Today there are paved roads that lead to the surrounding villages. Minibuses ensure mobility for the population.

The rapid relocation can be clearly seen in the architecture of the new city; the government had houses built, simple, rectangular blocks with flat roofs that look modern with their bright colors. In summer, when the warm walls heat up the apartments in the evening, the roofs serve as sleeping places.

Yeni Halfeti connects many surrounding villages and supports them in their economic development. However, increasing urbanization threatens village life (because many families are active in agriculture), Kurdish traditions and the language of the mostly Kurdish residents.
